La voix passive au passé

Past Passive Voice

In French, the past passive voice describes actions that were received by the subject in the past, formed with être (Passé composé) + the past participle of the main verb

The past passive voice emphasizes that the action was completed in the past, unlike the present passive voice, which describes actions happening now, habitual actions, or current known states resulting from prior actions.

La pièce a été assemblée (The part was assembled"): what matters is that the action of assembling the part was completed in the past, unlike the present passive voice, which describes ongoing or habitual actions or current states. Who assembled it is less important.

The structure is: subject + être (Passé composé) + past participle of the main verb (+ optional par + agent).
